SEPA stands for Single Euro Payments Area. As the abbreviation suggests, it is a system for euro payments in a particular area. This area consists of 36 countries within Europe and affiliated areas. Transferring as well as collecting payments within the SEPA countries is thus a lot easier.
Which countries are participating in SEPA?
There are 36 countries that belong to the SEPA area. These are all 27 Member States of the European Union (EU): Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the Czech Republic.
Plus the following 9 "loose" SEPA countries:Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, including Guernsey, Isle of Man and Jersey), Vatican City and Switzerland.
