Cashless payments at events

Paytrees story begins not too long ago, in 2018. In that year, the company started facilitating payments for events large or small that take payments seriously. Initially, Eventree's service, namely Eventree's "Ticketbox," was used only for ticket sales at the box office. This was later joined by a digital box office with the help of SumUps, allowing visitors to pay for their tickets via as well. One thing led to another, and soon the system was also used for coin sales. The company is growing, and the future looks bright.

But then in 2020 came Corona. The pandemic punched a huge hole in the event industry, and so did Paytree. "We were forced to sit down at the drawing board. And we decided to separate the payment system from ticketing (Eventree, Paytree). We then started a long development process," says Vincent. But with a completely revamped product and service offering as a result.

Today, Paytree offers a comprehensive and innovative platform for cashless payments during events. In addition to arranging payments, which Pay. as a Payment Service Provider naturally processes, Paytree also offers event organizers real-time payment insights, inventory management and employee performance visibility.

We are seeing an increasing demand for reliable and stable cashless payment systems at events. Together with Pay., we have so far been able to achieve and maintain this stability. Pay.’s scalability towards Eventree plays a major role in this.

Eventree and Pay. at the Motul TT Assen

In 2022, race fans couldn’t be happier when the Motul TT Assen returned to the calendar. During the three-day event, which welcomed 110,000 visitors, Eventree and Pay. handled payments at all food and beverage points.

The Motul TT Assen by Eventree and Pay. in numbers:

  • 110,000 visitors
  • 75,000+ successful transactions
  • 5 transactions per second during peak moments
  • 128 points of sale
  • 380 PIN terminals, personalized for the organizer within just a few days

Focus on flexibility

To ensure payments ran as smoothly as possible, Vincent from Eventree and Joost Janssens from Pay. decided to approach payments at the Motul TT as “in-store” payments. This meant that hospitality staff were equipped with mobile handheld terminals during the event. Vincent explains: “This allows each staff member to select products and complete payments on the spot. They can easily step in where needed, without requiring hardware changes at the bar. That means no large cash registers and no queues at checkout.”

Vincent continues: “We managed to combine mobile working with fixed terminals: the flexibility of mobile payments and the speed of traditional PIN terminals.”

Stable, reliable and scalable

Stable, reliable and scalable cashless payment systems are indispensable for events today, including the Motul TT Assen. And Pay. makes this possible. “We are seeing an increasing demand for reliable and stable cashless payment systems at events. Together with Pay., we have so far been able to achieve and maintain this stability. Pay.’s scalability towards Eventree plays a major role in this,” says Vincent.

Easy integration

Integrating Eventree’s and Pay.’s systems was also straightforward. “The initial integration was not complicated. From our experience with other events, the larger and more complex the system becomes, the more Pay. supports us. We are given more and more tools to make our system more robust and transparent. Communication with Pay. is especially helpful: short lines, so any issues are resolved in no time. Organizers also decide for themselves when their funds are paid out. No hassle.”
